Trainee Solicitors -

Dorking & Godalming, Surrey

At Downs we are passionate about providing the highest level of service to our clients and  we achieve this through our training and development programmes to enable all of our employees to realise and fulfil their full potential.

Trainees are an important asset of the firm and it is our goal to prepare them to be capable and confident solicitors on qualification.

Our structured two year trainee development programme focuses on building the technical and business skills you require to become a successful lawyer. We will only take on two trainees at a time so we can work closely with you to identify your strengths and skills and to help you to develop and shine in your career.  Each trainee is expected to spend six months in four different practice areas which is split between our three offices (Dorking, Cobham & Godalming, Surrey).  You can choose from the following:

In each seat you will be allocated a designated supervisor (a Partner or Associate) who will oversee your performance and will allocate you work/tasks and deadlines at a level that is appropriate to your role.  Your seat Supervisor plays an important role in your development and will be your first port of call if you have any legal questions, issues or concerns regarding your work during your training contract. In addition, each trainee is appointed a "buddy" to help guide you through your training contracts so with Downs, you will always have the help and support you need.

We are all about hands-on training and there is plenty of varied, interesting and sometimes challenging work for you to experience at our practice.   The work will vary from seat to seat, but during your training you will have responsibility for runing your own files, as well as working in teams on larger transactions and you will experience direct client contact both on the phone and in meetings.

We seek bright, enthusiastic, high calibre individuals  with a high standard of academic achievement. Our clients continually praise us for our integrity, intuition and insight so we are looking for candidates with that same mental flair.

We are currently considering applications for two training contracts starting in September 2014 so if you think you have what we are looking for then we would like to hear from you. Please send your CV to Andrew Christmas - The closing date for applications is 31 October 2013.

Our next contracts will be in September 2016 and applications will be invited from 1 June to 31 October 2015.
