Downs have been proud to be associated with the Dorking Talking Newspaper for the Blind since the idea of creating the audio paper first took shape back in 1986. The newspaper relies entirely on fundraising, financial contributions and volunteers and provides a vital community news service to blind and partially sighted residents in Dorking and the surrounding villages. The service is completely free.
We were delighted to sponsor a local charity fundraising event organised by Medau teacher, Jo Power. The event which was held in Mickleham Village Hall raised a total of £1,179.30 which will be divided between Ovarian Cancer Action and Medau.
We are delighted to make a financial donation to Farncombe Day Centre towards their redecoration works. The Day Centre which is managed by Age UK Farncombe and run by a committed team of volunteers is open to everyone over the age of 50 who lives in the Waverley area. In addition to providing lunches, coffee and tea, they also organise a range of different social activities and entertainment, minibus pick-up and return, chiropody, hairdressing and assisted bathing.
Downs is delighted to announce four new lawyer promotions as part of its annual review. Amber O’Connor, Neil Pfister and Williams Edwards have all been promoted to partners and Richard Cunningham is now an Associate.
Downs were delighted to once again sponsor and play in the Services and Forces Charity Golf Day. This year's event which took place at Wentworth Golf Club commemorated the centenary of World War 1. All the golfers dressed up in plus fours and flat caps, as was the normal golfing attire in 1914. Despite the wet, dreary weather, a great day was had by all. Golfers represented the Prince of Wales Royal Regiment, Hampshire Police, Surrey Fire and Rescue, Headley Court, Guildford Rotary Club, Surrey ACF and Battle Back.

Downs Solicitors were delighted to support Home-Start Elmbridge and Home-Start Guildford's charity golf day which took place at Effingham Golf Club on 28 March 2014. Home-Start Elmbridge and Guildford are part of the UK's leading family support charity, which has 334 schemes throughout the UK with over 16,000 volunteers. The charity offers friendship and emotional and practical support to parents with children under 5 years old. Trained volunteers visit families in their own homes to help parents build better lives for their children.

The kettles were boiling, as staff at Downs Solicitors LLP took part in the world's biggest coffee morning to raise funds for MacMillan Cancer Support. The event, the charity’s biggest fundraising event of the year, has been held every year since 1990, raising over £60 million in the process.
