Combat Property Fraud

Author: Caroline Walton

In an attempt to combat property fraud, the Land Registry have introduced an alert service called 'Property Alert' which is aimed at helping the public to protect themselves against property fraud.

Property Alert is a free monitoring service for anyone who might be concerned that their registered property could be at risk from fraud. It will be particularly useful in respect of empty properties or properties which are let out, which can be targeted by fraudsters. Fraudsters are particularly targeting properties which have no mortgage or charge registered against them.

Once you have signed up to the service, you will receive email alerts when official searches and applications are received against your monitored properties, allowing you to take action if necessary. You can monitor up to ten properties but the properties must be registered with the Land Registry. For further details see https://propertyalert.landregistry.gov.uk/
