Data Protection: GDPR Guidance Updated

On 25 May 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will replace the Data Protection Act. While the GDPR is a European Regulation, the UK Government has confirmed that the UK’s exit from the EU will not affect the commencement of the GDPR.
While further detail is awaited, the Information Commissioner’s Office has recently updated its helpful guidance for those wanting to start planning for the changes. Its 12-step guide is a very useful starting point. It confirms that those who currently comply with the Data Protection Act will have a valid starting point under the GDPR, but that there will still be more to do.
