Gas Safety Reminder

Landlords (and Licensors) of domestic property must comply with the provisions of the Gas Safety Regulations 1998 which includes:

  • A general duty to keep gas appliances and flues safe
  • A duty to ensure that gas appliances are checked every 12 months and detailed records are kept of those checks
  • A duty to ensure that the checks are made by a person authorised under the regulations.

The Gas Safety Regulations also require employers and self employed persons to “ensure that any gas appliance installation pipework or flue installed at any place of work under his control is maintained in a safe condition so as to prevent risk of injury”.

You must ensure that anyone carrying out work on a gas appliance or flue is registered under the Gas Safe Register. CORGI registration no longer carries any statutory force. If you have a long term contract to carry out gas safety inspections and maintenance you must check that your contractor is registered under the Gas Safe Register.
