Surrey – based law firm, Downs Solicitors LLP, has announced several promotions reflecting the growth and success of the firm.

On 1st July 2018, Simone Horrobin and Tamsin Reader have become Senior Associates whilst Ian Jones and Joanna Pashley have been promoted to Associate.

It is with regret and sadness that we pass on the news of Paul Marsh, who has died at the age of 70.

Paul was known for his dedicated services to the legal profession, which spanned over more than four decades. He was integral to the creation of the Conveyancing Quality Scheme and in 2012 he was appointed to the first board of the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Downs supports thriving junior club

Westcott Sports Club (WSC) and Downs Solicitors are delighted to announce that Downs has become the sponsor for the Westcott Wizards, the thriving junior section of Westcott Cricket Club.

Westcott has had a registered cricket side dating back to 1869 and WSC manages the Stable Meadow facility at Westcott which is home to Westcott 1935 senior football club and Westcott Cricket club.

Downs Solicitors appoint new Head of Immigration

Surrey-based law firm, Downs Solicitors, has appointed Samar Shams as Head of Immigration within the employment team.

Samar comes from Lewis Silkin, where she previously managed the immigration knowledge bank, keeping track of changes to the law regarding immigration from her contacts at the Home Office and in her wider industry network.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Gemma Taylor to the conveyancing team in Dorking, bringing with her more than 12 years’ experience in the industry.

Gemma Taylor joins Downs Solicitors, from TWM Solicitors and has worked in residential property since 2006. She qualified as a licensed conveyancer in 2013 and since then, Gemma has worked with clients on all legal aspects associated with residential property work.

Downs appoints new Senior Associate to Family team

We are please to announce the appointment of Terina Farnan as Senior Associate to the Family Law team in Cobham.

Terina, who joined Downs Solicitors & Notaries in March 2018 from a city firm, has more than 20 years’ experience practising exclusively for family law.  She takes over from the firm’s well respected family lawyer, Valerie Cooper, who will retire shortly.

Senior Partner, Chris Millar and Associate, Simone Horrobin, recently hosted a delegation from the Supreme Court of Japan which is located in Tokyo.

The delegation included Judge Ichita Matsunaga, Supreme Court of Japan, General Secretariat, Administrative Affairs Bureau, Mr Yoichi Iwata, Senior Staff, General Secretariat, Information Policy Division and Mr Naoya Maeda, Legal Attaché of the Embassy of Japan, London.

Godalming scout set for World Scout Jamboree 2019

Downs are delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to Godalming-based Scout, Ethan Glen’s fundraising efforts.  Ethan is one of three Scouts from Godalming who have been selected to attend the 2019 World Scout Jamboree in the USA.   So far he has raised about £600 offline so still has a way to go to reach his target.  However, he has a few big fundraising actvities planned for the next six months - sponsored Munro walk (big mountains), a quiz night and a school mufti day.

The Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the UK celebrated the New Year with a reception at Drapers’ Hall on 10 January 2018 for its members. Over 500 guests attended with guest speaker Ambassador Tsuruoka of Japan giving his thoughts on 2017 and the year ahead.
