Downs Solicitors is not just any law firm. Founded in 1836, we are proud to be one of Surrey’s oldest. Downs is a medium-sized law firm that is highly ranked in the Legal 500 and Lexcel accredited by the Law Society. Flexible working

The recent pandemic has made employers and employees realise that looking after ourselves and others is as important as ever. As a firm, we introduced flexible and remote working options for all our staff. We helped set up home working solutions and systems at no additional cost to staff, so that we could provide our clients with necessary legal service, yet keep staff safe. This shift has also allowed us improve work-life balance for our staff and we intend to maintain this flexible working option for all our staff.

Taking care of mental and physical health

Taking care of mental health and physical wellbeing were also issues that were amplified, as long lockdowns saw many people feeling lonely and isolated. All our staff have access to professional mental health support and wellness services through our private medical insurance cover. We encourage staff to take care of their mental and physical health and discuss any difficulties they may be experiencing.

Socialising is important at Downs

Downs is a very personable and social firm and we have tried to continue to build on this strength through these difficult times. Through staff suggestions, we started offering safe staff get-togethers and outings, such as walking competitions, crazy golf and other outdoor activities. The firm has colleagues that regularly run together and a weekly circuit training in the Dorking and Godalming offices for those who are feeling active.

We are always open to new ideas and suggestions on how we can socialise together safety. We encourage interaction on days staff are in the office, so that when they are remote working on other days it helps them to feel less distanced from the people they work with.

Career development 

Downs actively encourages career development and we have some very attractive opportunities for support staff and early career joiners. We also offer a training contracts programme for those who want to become solicitors. Downs is also here to support staff who are later in their careers and perhaps fancy learning something new, or want to refresh existing training.

Not just solicitors

Downs is a law firm, but we also have many career opportunities for those that are not solicitors.
