We believe that working at Downs Solicitors LLP is challenging, stimulating and very rewarding.

Our employees are by far our greatest asset and we have worked hard to create a professional and diverse working environment that challenges our staff to perform at their highest levels whilst developing their own careers in a supportive and collegiate environment.

2026 Applications are closed. Please come back and check for 2027.

We are always on the lookout for talented and enthusiastic lawyers to help us drive forward our plans.

This is an exciting opportunity to train with a diverse and highly experienced team of legal professionals across a broad range of practice areas.

We generally offer seats of 3-6 months with a variety of experience across our Departments and offices.  We work with our Trainee Solicitors to understand their interests and talents and tailor their training accordingly. Trainees will be mentored throughout their training and have the opportunity to develop practical legal skills in a supportive and professional environment.

We are also willing to consider previous Qualifying Work Experience (QWE) to reduce the period of training, where appropriate.

We welcome applicants who demonstrate:

  • Degree in Law, Graduate Diploma in Law or have passed SQE1.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • A genuine interest in pursuing a long-term legal career in a regional law firm
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • A proactive, client-focused, and commercially aware mindset

Whilst we are looking for the strongest candidates, for us, personality is also key. We understand that our clients value personal connections and so the ability to engage with people is of utmost importance. Downs is a welcoming and inclusive Firm, and we are looking for people who will thrive in and contribute to our supportive culture. We also value previous experience and skills developed in all areas of life from the legal sector to personal interests.
