Downs Solicitors appoint new Head of Employment Law

Surrey-based law firm, Downs Solicitors, have appointed David Seals as its new Head of Employment taking over from Matthew Kilgannon who will be leaving the firm shortly. David has been a partner at Downs for 8 years and will lead a highly experienced team including solicitors Keith Potter, Emily Kidd and Nicola O’Dwyer.

Changing divorce law could protect more children

Downs Solicitors has shared findings that link divorce and children’s mental health and wellbeing. The firm is calling for a change in the law which could settle conflict earlier on and protect more children in the process.

The statistics are from a new poll by YouGov and Family Justice Campaigners, Resolution, as part of Good Divorce Week.

Where there’s a will

We are pleased to announce that on behalf of Downs Solicitors and Notaries, Diane Sumpter has raised an impressive £1,100 for St Catherine's Hospice.

The money was raised during Wills Fortnight, which ran from 14th - 25th May 2018. During this time, participating organisations offer will-writing services free of charge, although clients make a donation towards St Catherine’s Hospice.

Downs Tough It Out on Court

A charity netball tournament has raised £1000 for St Catherine’s Hospice.

The tournament was organised by staff members Diane and Trevor Sumpter, and was held at Lingfield College in Surrey who generously allowed us to use their courts and facilities for free.

Remembering Paul Marsh

It is with regret and sadness that we pass on the news of Paul Marsh, who has died at the age of 70.

Paul was known for his dedicated services to the legal profession, which spanned over more than four decades. He was integral to the creation of the Conveyancing Quality Scheme and in 2012 he was appointed to the first board of the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Downs supports thriving junior club

Westcott Sports Club (WSC) and Downs Solicitors are delighted to announce that Downs has become the sponsor for the Westcott Wizards, the thriving junior section of Westcott Cricket Club.

Westcott has had a registered cricket side dating back to 1869 and WSC manages the Stable Meadow facility at Westcott which is home to Westcott 1935 senior football club and Westcott Cricket club.

Surrey-based law firm, Downs Solicitors, has appointed Samar Shams as Head of Immigration within the employment team.

Samar comes from Lewis Silkin, where she previously managed the immigration knowledge bank, keeping track of changes to the law regarding immigration from her contacts at the Home Office and in her wider industry network.

Downs Solicitors appoint new property specialist

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Gemma Taylor to the conveyancing team in Dorking, bringing with her more than 12 years’ experience in the industry.

Gemma Taylor joins Downs Solicitors, from TWM Solicitors and has worked in residential property since 2006. She qualified as a licensed conveyancer in 2013 and since then, Gemma has worked with clients on all legal aspects associated with residential property work.
